I have always been a keen bird watcher which certainly helps with getting the birds in their correct pose & in their natural settings, I am particular with my detail & it takes many hours to comlete each bird. I was fortunate enough to have grown up with the world famous bird artist Basil Ede as a neighbour & his encouragement & helpful tips set me on my way to my professional career.

I just love painting flowers, trying to capture their delicacy & beauty usually in watercolour. It was my move to Devon in 1969 & discovering its verdant hedgebanks & profusion of wildflowers that really set me off & I have continued painting them ever since. My paintings have been used for greetings cards & book illustrations & I was honoured to be commissioned by the auther John Fowles to paint some rare wildflowers in Lyme Regis.

I usually like to observe animals in the wild before painting them & living here in Devon I am lucky enough to encounter something on most of my walks. Apart from wildlife I also enjoy painting some of the many characterful farm animals I see here on Dartmoor, often with a slight sense of humour.

A subject very dear to my heart, I never grow tired of painting these jewels of the air. It is amazing how long it can take to paint just one butterfly as I like to get it looking as perfect as possible & in the correct setting usually lifesize. Having been observing & painting butterflies & insects for many years I am acutely aware of their fragile existance & their decline in recent years. I am never stuck for inspiration living in such beautiful surroundings wether it be the wild moors or the chocolate box villages, the green & mossy woods or the beautiful Devon coast there is always something to excite a painting out of me. I paint my landscapes in watercolours, oils & also pastels.
